Irfan Pathan emerged onto the international stage at 19 by making an immediate impact by dismissing Adam Gilchrist in the Sydney Test of 2004. With his smooth left-arm swing bowling and ability to contribute valuable runs with the bat, he was soon hailed as a promising all-rounder, one many hoped would follow in the footsteps of the legendary Kapil Dev. Later that year, during India’s historic tour of Pakistan, their first in 15 years, Pathan played a pivotal role in securing victories in both the Test and ODI series.
