Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, one of the country’s most dependable Test batters, has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. The 37-year-old confirmed the decision on August 24, 2025, through a heartfelt post on social media platform X. He is known for his solid technique and ability to blunt the fiercest bowling attacks, and earned a reputation in red-ball cricket.

Pujara’s journey in international cricket began with the India Under-19 team. He made his U-19 Test debut against England in 2005, scoring a stunning 211 runs in his very first innings to help India secure a victory by an innings. He was also part of India’s squad for the 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

He made his senior Test debut for India on October 9, 2010, against Australia in Bangalore. Over the years, he went on to establish himself as a mainstay in India’s middle order, becoming a cornerstone of their red-ball success.

One of the highlights of Pujara’s career came during the 2018–19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, when India secured their first-ever Test series win on Australian soil. Pujara played a defining role, facing a marathon 1,258 deliveries across four Tests, the most by a visiting batter in such a series, and scoring three centuries, earning widespread praise for his grit. Pujara played his final professional match in the Ranji Trophy 2025, representing Saurashtra against Gujarat in February.
